This 12 inch pieced block is highlighted by a single fabric block, leaving lots of space for great quilting. We used a straight set resulting in a square quilt. You could of course add more rows to create a queen or king size quilt. The pieced block is simplified by using the Nifty Notions® Half Square (NNHS) and Quarter Square (NNQS) ruler. Some earlier quiltmaker designed this block to honor one of our First Ladies and we’re delighted to share the story with you.
We chose a very scrappy look for the pieced block supported by a plain fabric for the alternate block. You could choose to work in a more organized manner, but remember that a wide variety of light, medium and dark fabrics make this even more exciting.
